Paramount Pictures confirmed that Peru will be one of the filming locations for the new saga of Transformers: Awakening of the Beasts, during a virtual event attended by director Steven Caple Jr., producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura, and stars Anthony Ramos and Dominique Fishback, informed the Peru Export and Tourism Promotion Commission – PROMPERÚ.
“Filming Transformers: Awakening of the Beasts in Machupicchu is a great privilege. Our goal is to evoke the spiritual connection that one feels when one finds oneself in sacred places like this and enjoys the achievements of this great civilization. It is also our responsibility not to detract from the story, so we are working hard to keep the historical part separate from the fictional narratives we are bringing to it,” said filmmaker Steven Caple Jr.
“As a filmmaker, I find it truly inspiring to immerse our film in Peruvian culture, this time we will have the opportunity to film in Cusco, located high and deep in the Andes Mountains; where it is possible to find traces of a sophisticated Inca civilization that survived through time and continues to live on in the communities of Cusco,” added Caple Jr. about filming in Peru.
The film will be shot during the last quarter of the year, and some of the locations selected are in the Cusco and San Martin regions. For this project, Paramount Pictures is working with Peruvian production company Apu Productions.
“The filming of this movie in our country will mark a milestone in the promotion of Peru as a location destination in the audiovisual sector worldwide. We thank Paramount Pictures for their trust, as well as the Peruvian institutions that made it possible to move this project forward. We are sure that the talent of Peruvian professionals will make the grade for mega-productions such as this one,” said the Minister of Foreign Trade and Tourism, Claudia Cornejo.
Likewise, the sanitary measures implemented for the audiovisual and tourism sectors have been recognized with the Safe Travels seal by the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC). In this way, the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism and the Ministry of Culture guarantee a safe stay for international producers visiting our country to film.
“Our millenary history has placed Peru in the eyes of the world. From the Ministry of Culture, and in coordination with other public entities, we will ensure that our heritage stands out during these films. We hope that this project will give a decisive boost to the Peruvian audiovisual industry,” said the Minister of Culture, Alejandro Neyra.
In addition to MINCETUR, PROMPERÚ and the Ministry of Culture, the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Health and Transport and Communications, in coordination with the National Superintendence of Customs and Tax Administration, the National Police and the regional and local governments of Cusco and San Martín have been working together to facilitate the making of this film.
According to Paramount Pictures, Transformers: Awakening of the Beasts will take audiences on a 90’s globe-trotting adventure and introduce the Maximals, Predacons and Terrorcons to the battle between Autobots and Decepticons on the ground. The first film in the Transformers saga was released 14 years ago captivating viewers, this sequel promises to return with all the action and spectacle of the first time for the enjoyment of viewers around the world. The film will be released on Thursday, June 23, 2022.
